I can relate to this poor guy. How many times in my life did I wait for that “perfect” job? Or house? Or partner? And not appreciate what was available right in front of me? #Gratitude and #acceptance is so important. Life’s too short to not enjoy each moment! Life is never perfect. Keep dreaming. Keep striving. Enjoy the journey or like this guy, die trying.
During a severe drought, a man journeys to find water. He has a map to a legendary well said to have the purest, most refreshing water.
- First offer: A village offers him water from a simple well. He declines, saying, “The water from your well is common. I am searching for the purest water in the world”.
- Second offer: A traveler offers him water from a canteen. The man refuses, stating, “I do not want just any water. It must be from the special well.”
- Final decline: As thirst overwhelms him, he reaches a river. He remembers his map and the promise of the special well, and refuses the water. He continues, dehydrated, determined to reach his destination.
He never reaches the well. He dies of thirst, close to a plentiful water source, still clutching the map.
Moral of the story
This parable is an allegory about the human condition and the pursuit of perceived perfection. It teaches that the constant search for a “perfect” solution or opportunity can cause someone to miss countless good options. The search for a superior, possibly mythical, ideal can lead to failure and ruin if someone refuses to use what is available.
